Hello from Newfoundland

Post by Monster BBQ »

Hi im a star wars fan, like the rest of you, and I’m interested in making a snow trooper costume. I met with some 501st members at a con yesterday who told me about all this and I’m wondering- where do I get the parts for the costumes??

The lady who was talking to me said the hardest part is finding the costume materials, how do you guys make your costumes? Are there recommended vendors online, or did you 3d print your costume? Or even craft it from raw materials? Sorry if this is silly but I wanna know if this is something I can commit to, money isn’t a big issue, but obviously I don’t wanna go broke on this

Hello Hope you will be able to start and complete your snowie.
I got my armor with MONCAL but there are other vendors.
MonCal has an etsy page another name to search which is under him is Far away creations.
JUST MAKE SURE that the kit is ON STOCK when you get it and message him first. To avoid LONG delays.
MonCal has an online instructions on how to assemble his kit once your purchase one.

The Mukluks I got in an online store in Canada.
Hope this gets you started

Nice to see another Canadian putting together a snowy! I just started ( I'm from Ottawa).

I bought my armour kit from Mon Cal Prop Shop (from their Etsy store), should be shipped within the next month. As for boots, there are lots of great army surplus stores in Canada. I bought my Mukluks from Smiths Army Surplus (Army Surplus store in Kingston, ON) online: https://www.sasonline.ca/canadian-military-mukluks.html
They have a ton of sizes and shipping was fast. Note that I found the Mukluks run LARGE. You may want to size down.

I've budgeted around $2K (CAD) for the costume and the DLT-19 blaster that I'm building, which should be very doable ( I expect I'll fall under). But price is something to keep in mind. No one makes armour kits for snowtroopers in Canada (that I've found), so you likely will be importing one if you don't print it yourself (which is a ton of work, and probably not recommended if this is your first time prop-building). Keep duties and taxes in mind at purchase. CBSA has a website for calculating duties and taxes so you're not shocked by a bill.

If you do decide to give 3D printing a go, I recommend checking out channels like OddViking. I thought his tutorials were really great at breaking down how to get rid of print lines, as well as tips for painting and weathering 3D printed pieces.

Best of luck to you!
