I suppose that you are referring to this picture of the Snowtrooper Commander clay sculpting (source : STAR WARS Behind The Magic CD-ROM)

Can't see any "nipple" from here, but a good shot of the 2 verticle lines on the nose area. Not sure what those 2 discs on the cheeks are... :?
That mate, basically is the holy grail, there in all its glory (minus the face greeblies) is the Snow Commander bucket. They probably pulled one or tow buckets from it ...the commander....found it was too difficult, or too expensive and went for the regular trooper version.....the rest is history...

Thanks for sharing the history behind this holy grail mate - OK so they deleted the face greeblies. Well at least LucasFilm found some good use for the buckets they have pulled from this clay sculpted mold, otherwise we won't be having a Snowtrooper Commander today!

That clay mockup is close to the original Ralph McQuarrie design for snowtroopers as well

Looks like there may have been several iterations before they settled on the fabric cowl on the helmets.

I thought the belt pouches looked a little small too, but otherwise a fantastic job....Now go stop that Millenium Falcon!

I'd recommend flipping the ab plate around so the angled part goes up and covers the gap under the chest more but it's up to you as both up and down are movie accurate. I think it was intended to be up but lazy prop masters didn't pay attention when dressing the stunt actors. Also, the raised circular detail on the backpack isn't painted, it needs a grey ring and black center dot.
